You may not be able to properly mimic his sound effect from the earlier games or look at Yarn Yoshis without tears in your eyes (maybe that’s just me), but you’ve gotta admit Yoshi is super adorable. That’s why it’s such an outrage that Mario has indeed been punching little Yoshi in the back of the head for years. This is far from hearsay. It’s been confirmed!During a series of interviews in celebration of the release of the Super NES Classic Edition, staff members like the director of Super Mario World, Takashi Tezuka, as well as character designer Shigefumi Hino, have come forward to set the record straight. And Mari isn’t pointing forward in a friendly “let’s go” gesture. He’s definitely hitting little Yoshi in the back of the head.Hino stated the following during one of the interviews:“While we were developing Super Mario Maker, the subject of what Mario is doing with his arm when Yoshi sticks his tongue out in Super Mario World came up. A lot of people on the team thought that Mario is pointing ahead and saying “Go!”But actually, I drew the artwork with the intention that Mario is hitting Yoshi on the head, and he’s sticking his tongue out from the surprise.”It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise since you can hear a small noise when you hit Yoshi on the back of the head. But it has saddened many of the denizens of the game industry so much that Hino has decided just to say that Mario is pointing forward rather than punching the little green cutie, so as not to upset them. At least he did something to soften the blow a bit, because it definitely makes me feel some type of way.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.last_img
