Microsoft offers faulty Xbox One owners a free game

first_imgAre you one of the gamers who picked up an Xbox One on launch day or over the weekend only to find it had a faulty Blu-ray drive or made an awful buzzing sound? Well, if you are, expect an email from Microsoft as apparently you are getting a free game. With high demand for the console, which managed to sell over a million units on launch day, it’s not surprising to hear that shipping out replacement consoles is going to take some time. So to cover the delay in getting you a fully-functioning machine, Xbox support is emailing those affected to offer them a free download game. The thinking behind that is, even if the Blu-ray drive doesn’t work on your Xbox, you can still download and play your free game. There are four titles to choose from in the free game offer. They are:Dead Rising 3Forza Motorsport 5Ryse: Son of RomeZoo TycoonI suspect Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5 will be the top choices, but without official figures from Microsoft we don’t know exactly how many gamers are taking home faulty consoles. The numbers are meant to be small, but how small when you’re talking about a machine that’s already shipped more than a million?Microsoft must still be shipping out launch stock of the Xbox One, so it seems likely some units will still be shipping with the faulty Blu-ray drives and buzzing sounds. However, I am sure Microsoft has already addressed the issue on the production lines, and instances of faulty machines should dry up very quickly.last_img read more
